A Trickster’s Guide to Wisdom

The World’s Worst Teacher

You ask me for wisdom? Ha. That’s rich. The gods have always said I’m the last one you should ask for advice. But then again, the All-Father himself once hanged himself from Yggdrasil, pierced by his own spear, for nine days and nights, just to learn a few runes. So maybe you’re not so far off.

Wisdom, as the Aesir see it, is something to be earned through pain, sacrifice, and long speeches in mead halls. But let me tell you a secret: wisdom isn’t earned, it’s stolen. And the best thieves are the ones who don’t look like thieves at all.

Wisdom Isn’t What You Think It Is

You think wisdom is about knowing what’s right. About making the “correct” choices. About seeing the big picture and playing your part in it. That’s the kind of thinking that keeps you chained to fate. And I’ve never liked chains.

Real wisdom is knowing when to break the rules. When to bend the truth. When to let things burn so something better can grow from the ashes. I’ve seen Odin weave fate with one eye closed, pretending he doesn’t see the cracks forming. I’ve watched Thor swing his hammer, thinking strength alone can hold the Nine Realms together. Where’s their wisdom in that?

No, true wisdom is adaptability. It’s knowing that the world changes, and if you don’t change with it, you’ll be left behind. And if you’re not ready to change, you’re not wise — you’re just stubborn.

Honesty Is Overrated

Oh, don’t look at me like that. You think lying is always a sin? Let me tell you a story. Once, I promised to build a wall around Asgard in exchange for the sun, the moon, and Freya’s hand in marriage. I nearly did it too — with the help of my horse, Sleipnir, disguised as a mare. But Thor ruined it all with his hammer and his temper. He called me a trickster. As if that wasn’t the whole point.

Sometimes, the truth isn’t helpful. Sometimes, the truth is boring. Sometimes, the truth is a hammer waiting to fall. If I tell you something that isn’t true, but it makes you think, question, or laugh — isn’t that more valuable than a dry fact?

Wisdom isn’t about honesty. It’s about effect. If a lie teaches you something, who are you to call it a lie?

Chaos Is the Only Truth

You want wisdom? Then embrace chaos. Because the world is chaos. The so-called order of the gods is a performance, a mask they wear to keep you from seeing the truth. But I don’t wear masks. I tear them off.

Creation and destruction are the same thing, just seen from different angles. I’ve helped build Asgard, and I’ve helped destroy it. Both times, I learned something new. Both times, I grew.

Wisdom isn’t about avoiding chaos — it’s about dancing in it. It’s about knowing that nothing is permanent, and that’s the only thing you can count on. So if you want to be wise, stop clinging to your little certainties. Let go. Let the storm carry you.

The Only Rule That Matters

There’s one rule I’ve always followed, and it’s this: never stop moving. Never stop thinking. Never stop questioning. If you stop, you rot. If you stagnate, you die. That’s the real wisdom of the ages.

So go ahead. Call me a trickster. Call me a liar. Call me a destroyer. But don’t call me ignorant. Because I see the world for what it is — messy, unpredictable, and full of possibility. And if you’re brave enough to look with open eyes, you’ll see it too.
