Alucard is Dracula — his name spelled backward. He is the historical Vlad III, the Impaler, who was defeated on the battlefield, chose vampirism over death, and has been alive ever since. The reveal that the world's most powerful vampire is also the most famous vampire is delivered casually, as if the connection should have been obvious. It is Kouta Hirano's way of saying: every vampire story is his story. He was always there.

He Respects Only One Person

Integra Hellsing defeated Alucard through pure will — a teenage girl staring down an ancient vampire and refusing to flinch. Alucard pledged his service because she earned it. His relationship with Integra is the only genuine bond in the series — not romantic, not familial, but something older and more fundamental: the monster who finally found someone worthy of holding the leash.
