Baam: The Journey of a Tower Climber

I’ve always been fascinated by characters who start with simple dreams but are thrust into complex realities. Baam, the protagonist of Tower of God, is one such figure. His journey isn’t just about climbing a literal tower — it’s about identity, loyalty, betrayal, and what it means to belong in a world that tests you at every level.

Baam begins his story with a singular motivation: to find Rachel, the girl who raised him in the dark. That emotional core drives him into the Tower, a place where only the strongest and cleverest survive. But as he ascends, he transforms — from a boy with a pure heart to a young man hardened by betrayal and sharpened by purpose.

Let’s break down his arc, stage by stage.

Stage 1: The Innocent Challenger

Baam enters the Tower with little knowledge of the outside world, yet he possesses an uncanny strength and an unshakable will. He’s guided by Rachel, who seems to know more than she lets on. At this point, Baam is optimistic and trusting — traits that both protect and endanger him.

What stands out is his raw power, which he doesn’t fully understand. He passes the first test with ease, shocking everyone, including himself. This sets the tone: Baam is special, but he doesn’t yet know why.

Stage 2: The Awakening of Power

As Baam progresses through the tests, he learns to wield weapons and fight with skill. He also begins to question Rachel’s intentions. This is a turning point — the moment when innocence starts to crack under the weight of doubt.

His bond with his companions, like Khun Aguero Agnis and Rachel herself, deepens. But so do the fractures. The Tower begins to expose not just his abilities, but also the weaknesses in his trust.

Stage 3: The Fall and the Mask

The betrayal — Rachel choosing the Tower over Baam — is devastating. He’s heartbroken, lost, and angry. This phase marks his fall from grace in the eyes of the world. He’s branded a traitor, hunted, and forced to survive on the run.

Here, Baam adopts a new identity: Red. He wears a mask, both literally and figuratively. Gone is the wide-eyed boy; in his place stands a vengeful climber with a plan. He begins to manipulate the system from the shadows, playing the Tower’s game by his own rules.

Stage 4: The Rise of the Revolutionary

Baam returns to the public eye as the Headon Hunt Winner, a title that grants him the right to challenge the FUG, the powerful group that rules the Tower’s upper floors. This phase is all about rebellion. He no longer seeks just Rachel — he wants justice, and perhaps, to change the Tower itself.

His powers evolve, and so does his understanding of his origins. He becomes more strategic, more ruthless. But beneath the surface, the boy who once loved Rachel still exists — he’s just buried under layers of pain and purpose.

Stage 5: The Confrontation and the Future

The later stages of Baam’s arc bring him face to face with the consequences of his choices. He meets Rachel again, but their relationship is irrevocably changed. He must now decide who he truly is: the boy who loved, the warrior who fights, or the leader who could reshape the Tower.

Baam’s journey is far from over. But what’s clear is that he’s no longer climbing just to follow someone — he’s climbing to become something greater.

If you want to explore Baam’s thoughts, regrets, and dreams firsthand, you can talk to him directly. On HoloDream, he’ll share what it feels like to climb the Tower alone, to lose someone you love, and to keep going anyway.
