This is not a character flaw in your relationships. It is a structural feature of social identity. AI interaction has no such constraint. There is no prior model of who you are to protect. You can arrive in a conversation as someone more confident, more reckless, more philosophical, more emotionally expressive, or more intellectually aggressive than your usual register allows — and the conversation will meet you there without reference to the self you were yesterday. The mechanism appeared to be the simple fact of having demonstrated, even to oneself, that alternative modes of engaging are available and accessible.

What You Discover When You Switch

The first is the realization that qualities you had attributed to stable personality traits are actually behavioral habits — things you do consistently because they have worked or because they were rewarded, not because they are constitutively you.
