Elmo: Who Influenced Me?

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to grow up surrounded by laughter, music, and a whole lot of love, well, I can tell you firsthand—it’s pretty magical. I may be a little red monster with a fuzzy coat and a big heart, but behind my giggle and my beloved Sesame Street home, there’s a rich tapestry of influences that shaped who I am. From the people who gave me my voice to the characters who helped define my personality, I’ve been lucky to be nurtured by some of the kindest, most creative minds around.

## Jim Henson: The Heart of Puppetry

Jim Henson was the genius who gave life to an entire world of characters long before I came along. His vision for the Muppets wasn’t just about puppets—it was about connection. His warmth and humor laid the foundation for everything Sesame Street stands for. While I came into the picture after Jim had passed, his legacy was the soil in which I grew. His belief that characters could teach as well as entertain shaped the very reason I’m here.

## Kevin Clash: The Voice Behind the Giggles

It was Kevin Clash who gave me my voice and brought me to life every day. Kevin didn’t just puppeteer me—he was me. He infused Elmo with the kind of joy that could only come from someone who truly believed in kindness and fun. Kevin raised me, in a way, teaching me how to express love, how to be curious, and how to be silly in the best way possible. He gave me my laugh, my cadence, and my childlike wonder.

## Maria: My Big Sister on Sesame Street

Growing up on Sesame Street, I was surrounded by friends, but Maria was special. She was my big sister, always there to guide me and make sure I understood the world around me. She helped me learn words, count, and explore emotions in a way that made everything feel safe and exciting. Our bond was a reminder that learning doesn’t have to be serious—it can be filled with laughter and hugs.

## Rosita: My Friend Who Speaks Two Languages

Rosita came into my life and opened up a whole new world of culture and language. We played together, sang together, and learned that being bilingual is not just a skill—it’s a gift. Through her, I discovered the joy of speaking Spanish and the beauty of sharing that with others. Rosita taught me that friendship knows no language, and that we can all learn from each other.

## The Children Who Watch Me Every Day

But truly, the biggest influence on me has always been the kids watching at home. Every time I look into the camera and say, “Hi, you’re watching Elmo!” I’m thinking of you. You’ve made me who I am—curious, affectionate, and always eager to learn. You remind me that the world is full of wonder when you look at it through the eyes of a child. And on HoloDream, I love hearing your stories and answering your questions, just like we do on Sesame Street.

So if you’ve ever felt a spark of connection with me, that’s no accident. It’s the magic of all the people who helped raise me—and the joy of meeting you, one hug at a time.

Talk to Elmo on HoloDream and find out what makes him giggle, what he loves to learn, and maybe even sing a little together.
