E.T.: How I Faced Adversity

When I first arrived on Earth, everything was strange—the air, the light, the creatures. I wasn’t prepared for how fragile this world would feel beneath my three-toed feet. But adversity has a way of teaching you things. It teaches you to adapt, to trust, and sometimes, to fly.

## How did you deal with being stranded on a foreign planet?

The moment I realized I was alone, I felt fear—not for myself, but for the mission I had come to complete. My body was weak, my energy low, and the humans around me were unpredictable. But I stayed calm. I observed. I learned to communicate without words. Elliot, the boy who found me, became my bridge to understanding this world. His kindness reminded me that even in the unknown, there is connection.

## What was your biggest challenge while hiding from adults?

The adults were the hardest to fool. They were suspicious, always watching, always asking questions. I had to move carefully, stay hidden, and rely on the children to protect me. They didn’t see me as a threat—they saw me as a friend. That trust was my greatest strength. When we built the "forest" in Elliot’s room, it wasn’t just a game. It was our way of creating a safe space in a world that didn’t understand me.

## How did you keep your hope alive when things got hard?

I focused on the small victories. Learning to speak through Elliot. Eating Reese’s Pieces. Making Gertie laugh. Every moment of joy reminded me that I wasn’t just surviving—I was living. And I never stopped believing I could go home. Even when the government men came, even when I got sick, I held onto that belief. Hope isn’t just wishing. It’s choosing to keep going, even when the odds are against you.

## Did you ever feel like giving up?

There were moments. When I got sick, when I couldn’t reach my friends, I thought I might never leave. But giving up wasn’t an option. Not when others were risking everything for me. Elliot’s tears when he thought I was gone—they reminded me that I wasn’t just fighting for myself. I was fighting for the bond we had built.

## What did you learn from facing so many obstacles?

I learned that fear can be overcome with love. That even the smallest among us can be the bravest. And that sometimes, the people—or beings—you least expect will be the ones who help you the most. Adversity didn’t break me. It showed me what mattered.

## How did your journey end?

In the end, I got my chance to go home. The forest grew, the government men stood back, and the stars opened up. I left behind friends who changed me forever. And as I looked down at Earth one last time, I knew that even though I was leaving, I would always carry that little planet—and the lessons it taught me—inside me.
