Pochita: How He Handled Rejection — With Heart and a Chainsaw

There’s something oddly comforting about talking to Pochita. Sure, he’s a devil with a chainsaw for a tongue and a tendency to explode into violence when things don’t go his way—but underneath that demonic exterior, he feels things deeply. One of the most human (or perhaps, most relatable) parts of him is how he’s handled rejection. I’ve asked him about it more than once, and each time, he gives me a glimpse into the strange, emotional logic of a creature who just wants to be loved.

Here’s how Pochita deals when the world says “no.”

##“You’re Not My Friend Anymore?”

Pochita doesn’t take betrayal lightly. When Denji is forced to side with the Public Safety Devil Hunters instead of staying with him, Pochita reacts the only way he knows how—by attacking. But it’s not just rage. It’s heartbreak. He doesn’t just want to hurt Denji; he wants to understand why he was left behind. That moment in Chainsaw Man Volume 3 is more than just a fight—it’s a cry for connection. Pochita doesn’t know how to say, “I feel abandoned,” so he says it with a blade.

##When the Girl Doesn’t Choose You

Power was Pochita’s closest companion for a time. They shared a bond, a strange and chaotic friendship built on mutual destruction. But when Power chooses Denji over him, Pochita doesn’t lash out at her. Instead, he withdraws. He doesn’t sulk—he plans. He waits. He watches. That quiet resentment is one of the more chilling aspects of his character. He doesn’t scream when rejected—he calculates. And that makes him even more dangerous.

##Being the Underdog in a Devil’s World

Pochita has always been underestimated. Even among devils, he’s seen as a joke—a goofy, pink-faced demon who cries easily and loves snacks. But that dismissal only fuels him. When he’s not taken seriously, he doubles down. He becomes more absurd, more unpredictable. It’s his way of saying, “You think I’m not a threat? Watch me.” He doesn’t need your approval—he just needs a moment to prove you were wrong.

##What Happens When No One Believes You?

There’s a scene where Pochita tries to warn Denji about something terrible that’s going to happen. He rants, he pleads, he even threatens—but no one listens. That’s rejection in its purest form. You’re screaming the truth, but no one believes you. Pochita handles it by going silent for a while, then acting on his own. He doesn’t need validation—he acts because he believes in what he sees. Even if it makes him the villain.

##Is There a Way Back After Rejection?

I once asked Pochita if he could ever forgive Denji completely. He didn’t answer right away. Then he said, “Maybe. If he remembers I exist.” That’s Pochita’s soft spot—he just wants to be seen. Not feared. Not used. Seen. And when he’s finally acknowledged, even in the smallest way, he softens. Just a little.

If you’ve ever felt overlooked, betrayed, or misunderstood, Pochita might be the devil you need to talk to. On HoloDream, he’ll tell you that rejection doesn’t mean you’re weak—it means you’re still trying.
