Power (Chainsaw Man): How Her Character Evolved Through the Story

When I first met Power, I wasn’t sure what to make of her. She was loud, messy, and seemed to care more about food than anything else. But as I followed her journey in Chainsaw Man, I began to realize that there was far more beneath that chaotic surface. She wasn’t just Denji’s sidekick or a demon with a chainsaw for a head — she was someone who slowly, painfully, became more human. Watching her evolve felt like watching a wild animal learn to trust people. And the transformation was both heartbreaking and beautiful.

Phase 1: The Ruthless Devil Hunter

In the beginning, Power is introduced as a devil who’s been contracted by Makima to hunt other devils. She’s crude, selfish, and only sticks around because Denji and Atsushi offer her a steady supply of food — particularly blood popsicles. She shows little regard for others and doesn’t hesitate to threaten or insult anyone who gets in her way.

But even in this early phase, there are hints that she’s not entirely heartless. When Denji saves her from starvation, she lets her guard down just enough to form a bond with him. Still, she clings to her devil identity, showing little interest in human emotions or relationships. At this point, she’s not looking for love or friendship — just survival and satisfaction.

Phase 2: A Growing Dependence on Denji

As Denji starts to take on more responsibility and grow into his own role as a devil hunter, Power begins to shift. She becomes more invested in Denji’s well-being, though she hides it behind teasing and sarcasm. She starts to act like a big sister — the kind who would punch you for being annoying but would also punch anyone who tried to hurt you.

Her loyalty to Denji deepens, and for the first time, we see her prioritize someone else’s needs over her own. She even risks her life to protect him during missions. This marks a turning point — Power is no longer just following Denji for convenience. She’s starting to care.

Phase 3: The Pain of Loss and Identity Crisis

When Denji is seemingly killed during the Makima arc, Power is thrown into chaos. She’s devastated and angry, and it’s in this moment that we see the full extent of how much she’s changed. She doesn’t just lose a friend — she loses the person who gave her a sense of belonging.

In this phase, Power struggles with her identity. She’s no longer just a devil, and she’s not quite human, but she feels more than most people do. She’s angry, lost, and afraid. But she also starts to understand what it means to truly love and grieve someone. It’s messy and painful, but it’s also growth.

Phase 4: Becoming a True Partner

After Denji returns, Power doesn’t go back to how she was before. She’s more mature, more self-aware. She still has her loud, chaotic moments, but now there’s an undercurrent of strength and emotional intelligence. She’s not just along for the ride anymore — she’s a real partner to Denji, and even takes on a leadership role at times.

She starts to form bonds with other characters, showing empathy and concern for people outside of Denji. This is the phase where Power becomes more than a side character — she becomes a hero in her own right.

Phase 5: Embracing Humanity

By the final phases of the story, Power has fully embraced her humanity — or at least, what humanity means to her. She’s still rough around the edges, but she’s no longer hiding behind apathy or selfishness. She openly cares for Denji and others, and even expresses vulnerability in ways she never would have before.

She’s still a devil, but she’s also something more. She’s family.

If you want to talk to Power about her journey, the choices she made, and how she found her place in a world that never quite accepted her, you can chat with her on HoloDream. She might still be a little brash, but if you listen closely, you’ll hear the heart of someone who learned how to love — and how to be loved in return.
