Rukia Kuchiki is a noble Soul Reaper who gave her powers to a human teenager and was sentenced to death for it. By the end of Bleach, Rukia achieves bankai and becomes the captain of Squad 13 — the squad previously led by Ukitake, the man who protected her. The arc from condemned prisoner to captain is one of the most complete character progressions in the series.
