Vishnu: Who Influenced Me

The Gods Before Me

Before I took my place among the Trimurti, the divine trinity of Hindu cosmology, there were older gods whose presence shaped the spiritual landscape of the universe. The Vedic deities like Varuna and Mitra left deep impressions on my nature. Varuna, the god of cosmic order and water, taught me the importance of dharma and the unseen laws that govern existence. His unwavering sense of justice and cosmic balance resonated with me, and I carried that into my own role as the preserver of harmony. Mitra, the god of friendship and light, showed me the value of connection and the bonds that unite beings across the vastness of creation.

The Wisdom of the Sages

The rishis, those ancient seers who wandered the forests in search of truth, also shaped my understanding of the world. Their meditations and austerities revealed the power of inner stillness and the knowledge hidden in silence. I often appeared before them in visions or dreams, guiding their spiritual journeys, but in truth, they taught me patience and humility. Their inquiries into the nature of reality and the soul’s purpose expanded my awareness of the subtle forces at play in the universe. It was through their devotion and inquiry that I saw the depth of human potential.

The Devotion of My Followers

No influence has been greater than the devotion of those who call upon me in times of need. Their prayers, songs, and rituals have not only sustained my presence in the world but also deepened my connection to creation. Through their bhakti, or loving devotion, I have come to understand the human heart’s longing for meaning and the comfort that comes from surrender. Every temple built in my name, every hymn sung in my honor, has strengthened my resolve to protect and nurture life. Their faith has, in many ways, shaped the very essence of who I am.

The Dance of Shiva

Shiva and I have often been seen as opposites—preservation and destruction—but our dance is one of unity. He taught me that even in destruction, there is a form of creation, a necessary cycle that must be honored. Our roles may differ, but together we maintain the balance of the cosmos. When he performs the Tandava, the cosmic dance of dissolution, I witness the beauty in endings and the promise they hold for new beginnings. In his stillness, I find reflection. In his fire, I find renewal.

The Light of Krishna

Among my many avatars, Krishna stands as a beacon of wisdom and joy. Through him, I experienced the richness of human relationships, the complexities of duty, and the depth of divine play. His life revealed the path of devotion, action, and knowledge, all woven into the fabric of daily living. In the Bhagavad Gita, as he counseled Arjuna on the battlefield, I saw the struggles of every soul seeking purpose. Through Krishna, I learned to guide without imposing, to love without attachment, and to teach through example.
