B-612 is so small that the Prince can watch the sunset every evening simply by moving his chair a few steps. He tends to his asteroid meticulously, pulling out baobab trees before they grow too large and caring for his rose, whom he loves deeply — though she often tests his patience. The Prince’s life is peaceful, but it is also lonely, and his rose’s vanity eventually pushes him to seek understanding elsewhere.

He travels to six other asteroids, each inhabited by a single adult who represents a different flaw in the adult world — from vanity to greed to rigidity. These encounters confuse and disappoint him.
