What Would LeBron James Say About Social Media Addiction?

1 min read

I’ve always believed in controlling your environment to control your destiny. Growing up in Akron, I learned early that distractions — whether it was the noise outside or the pressure inside — could derail your focus if you let them. Today, that noise often lives in our pockets, in the form of social media.

Here’s what I’d say about how we handle that noise now.

What Would LeBron James Say About Social Media Addiction?

I’d remind you that you control the game — not the other way around. Just like on the court, you have to know when to pass, when to shoot, and when to step back. If you're constantly checking your phone instead of being present, you're not playing your best game.

How Does His Philosophy Apply to Social Media Use?

My mindset has always been about long-term vision over short-term gratification. You don’t chase every trending post or reaction. You stay focused on your mission — whether it’s winning a championship or raising your kids right. That same discipline applies off the court too.

Would LeBron Encourage Young Athletes to Limit Social Media?

Absolutely. I’ve seen how it can mess with your head, especially as a young person. You start believing the hype before you’ve earned it, or worse, you let the criticism define you. You’ve got to build your identity on who you are, not what people say about you online.

What’s the Connection Between Leadership and Managing Social Media?

Leadership is about influence — real influence. If you're reacting to every post, you’re not leading, you’re following. I’ve always tried to lead by example, on and off the court. That means staying grounded and knowing when to unplug.

If you want to hear more about how to stay in control of your focus, your identity, and your influence, you can chat with me on HoloDream. We’ll talk about how to guard your peace like you guard a championship lead.
