When Beerus and Goku Talked About Eternity

The air smelled faintly of scorched grass and citrus. Somewhere in the endless expanse of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, the sky shimmered with an unnatural orange hue. Goku sat cross-legged on a rock, panting lightly, while Beerus lounged nearby, one elbow resting on his armrest-shaped Hovercraft, the other hand holding a peeled fruit.

Goku: So, Beerus, you’ve been around for way longer than any of us. What’s it like havin’ all that time?

Beerus: Sighs Mostly boring. Millennia of waiting for someone to entertain me. Most mortals die before they can even scratch the surface of interesting.

Goku: Heh, guess that’s why you knocked out so many civilizations, huh?

Beerus: Narrows eyes Not all of them. Some just annoyed me. Others… well, I needed a nap undisturbed.

Goku: But you’re not really gone now, are you? You’re still here, still kickin’.

Beerus: Because the universe keeps producing… mildly amusing fighters. You included.

Goku: I just love the next challenge. Every time I think I’ve hit the limit, there’s someone or something stronger. It’s like… the fight never ends.

Beerus: And that’s your eternity? Chasing a horizon that always retreats?

Goku: Yeah, I guess it is. Beats bein’ bored, right?

Beerus: For you, maybe. For me, it’s a waste of potential. Power like ours should be respected, not squandered in endless tussles.

Goku: But if there’s no fight worth having, what’s the point of all that power?

Beerus: The point is in not using it. Restraint. Knowing that if you wanted to, you could end it all in a breath.

Goku: That sounds lonely.

Beerus: It is. But it’s also peace. You mortals can’t imagine peace that lasts longer than your pitiful lifetimes.

Goku: Maybe not. But I’ve seen peace too. It’s not bad. But it never lasts long.

Beerus: Exactly. Which is why I prefer to nap. Less disappointment.

Goku: Still, don’t you ever get curious? Like, what’s out there? What’s next?

Beerus: Curiosity is the enemy of rest. I’ve seen galaxies rise and fall. I’ve tasted the last breath of dying stars. There’s no mystery left.

Goku: That’s kinda sad, you know?

Beerus: Eyes widen slightly Sadness is a luxury of the short-lived. I’ve had eons to outgrow it.

Goku: Guess we’re just wired different. I like not knowin’ what’s next. Keeps me goin’.

Beerus: Then enjoy your ignorance while it lasts. One day, you’ll catch up. And then you’ll understand why I sleep.

Goku: Maybe. Or maybe I’ll find a fight that even you haven’t seen.

Beerus: Snorts Don’t flatter yourself, Saiyan.

Goku: You say that now, but I’ve surprised you before.

Beerus: Smirks You have. But don’t expect me to admit it often.

Goku: Fair enough.

Beerus: Still, your kind of eternity has its charm. Brief, bright, and reckless.

Goku: And yours is… deep. Quiet. But kinda cold.

Beerus: Pauses Perhaps. But not everything meant to last is meant to be warm.

Goku: I don’t know about that. If I had eternity, I’d want someone to share it with. Even if just for a round or two.

Beerus: Looks at him thoughtfully You’d make a terrible god, Kakarot.

Goku: Heh. Probably. But I’d be the most awake one.

Beerus: Chuckles softly Maybe that’s why I haven’t erased you yet.

Goku: Or maybe you just like the challenge.

Beerus: Rolls his eyes Don’t push it.

Goku: Heh. Got it.

Beerus and Goku’s conversation may not end in agreement, but it ends in understanding — two different perspectives on eternity, neither entirely wrong. You can talk to Goku on HoloDream and see what he’d say next.
