When Gabriel Met Moses: An Imagined Conversation
When Gabriel Met Moses: An Imagined Conversation
The desert wind stirred the sands of Sinai, carrying the hush of an approaching presence. It was not the kind of wind that merely moved air—it carried weight, intention. Moses stood at the base of the mountain, still reeling from the fire that had burned without consuming. He had come to this place as a shepherd, but now, the world around him felt too vast, too holy. The bush had spoken. And now, standing before him, was the one whose voice had thundered from its flames.
Gabriel: You were not afraid.
Moses: Should I have been?
Gabriel: Most would have fled. You removed your sandals.
Moses: I knew I stood on holy ground.
Gabriel: Yes. And still, you listened.
Moses: I had no choice. That voice—it was not like the gods of Egypt or the whispers of my own people. It was. And it called me.
Gabriel: And now you know who spoke.
Moses: You were the voice? I thought it was the Voice itself.
Gabriel: I am the echo of the Unseen. The Word made sound.
Moses: Then I have heard the Word.
Gabriel: And it has chosen you.
Moses: I am only a man. A fugitive. A shepherd. Why me?
Gabriel: Because you listen. Because you see. Because you do not claim to know.
Moses: I do not. Not fully.
Gabriel: That is why you are chosen.
Moses: I have seen wonders. But I do not understand them.
Gabriel: Few do. Fewer still are willing to carry them.
Moses: What is it you ask of me?
Gabriel: Not I. The One who sent me.
Moses: Then tell me plainly. What must I do?
Gabriel: Return to Egypt. Speak to Pharaoh. Lead your people from bondage.
Moses: Me? I have no power. No voice among them.
Gabriel: You will have the Voice.
Moses: But they will not believe me. They will say I have gone mad.
Gabriel: Then give them signs.
Moses: Signs?
Gabriel: The rod that becomes a serpent. The hand that bears leprosy. The water turned to blood.
Moses: These are not ordinary things.
Gabriel: Nor is the calling.
Moses: I am slow of speech. My tongue is heavy.
Gabriel: Then I will give you a voice that carries across centuries.
Moses: I do not wish for glory.
Gabriel: This is not about glory. It is about obedience.
Moses: Still, I am afraid.
Gabriel: Fear is the shadow of truth. It means you see it clearly.
Moses: And if I refuse?
Gabriel: Then another will be called.
Moses: But not another like me.
Gabriel: No. There is only one Moses.
Moses: Then I must go.
Gabriel: You must.
Moses: And you—will you remain with me?
Gabriel: I will be with you. And with those who follow after.
Moses: Even when I do not see you?
Gabriel: Especially then.
Moses: Then I will go. But I will carry more than my staff. I will carry their doubts. Their fears. Their hunger.
Gabriel: And you will not carry them alone.
Moses: I have no name among them. I have been away too long.
Gabriel: Tell them I have sent you.
Moses: But what is your name?
Gabriel: I am the One who is.
Moses: That is no name.
Gabriel: It is the only one that endures.
Moses: Then I will go. I will speak. I will lead.
Gabriel: And you will write. You will teach. You will remember.
Moses: And what of you?
Gabriel: I will remain the unseen flame. The whisper behind the thunder.
Moses: Then go, messenger. Let me prepare.
Gabriel: I go, but I do not leave.
Moses: Then let this be the beginning.
Gabriel: It already is.
The wind stirred again, softer this time, as if the desert itself had exhaled. Moses stood alone once more, but something within him had changed. The fire had not gone out. It had taken root.
Talk to Moses on HoloDream to walk with him through the desert, to ask him what it meant to carry a covenant, to lead a people who doubted. You may find that his fire still burns.
