Who Is Arya Stark From Game of Thrones?

1 min read

Arya Stark is a main character in Game of Thrones (HBO, 2011-2019) and George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels. She is the younger daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark of Winterfell. After witnessing her father's execution, she spends years as a fugitive, trains with the Faceless Men assassins in Braavos, and returns to Westeros to avenge her family. She kills the Night King in the Battle of Winterfell. She is played by Maisie Williams.

What Is Arya's Kill List?

Arya's kill list is a recitation of names — people responsible for the deaths of her family and friends — that she repeats before sleep as a ritual. Major names include Cersei Lannister, Walder Frey, Meryn Trant, and Ilyn Payne. She personally kills several people on her list, including Walder Frey (whose throat she slits after feeding him his sons in a pie) and Meryn Trant.

Who Are the Faceless Men?

The Faceless Men are a guild of assassins based in the House of Black and White in Braavos. They worship the Many-Faced God (a deity representing death across all religions) and can change their appearance by wearing the faces of the dead. Arya trains with them for approximately two years, learning combat, stealth, and face-changing before rejecting their requirement to abandon her identity.

Did Arya Kill the Night King?

Yes. In the Battle of Winterfell (Season 8, Episode 3), Arya kills the Night King by leaping at him from behind and stabbing him with a Valyrian steel dagger. The Night King catches her by the throat, but she drops the dagger from one hand to the other and plunges it into him, destroying him and the entire army of the dead.
