Who Is Captain America?

1 min read

Captain America (Steve Rogers) is a Marvel Comics superhero created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, first appearing in Captain America Comics #1 (1941). He was a frail young man from Brooklyn who was transformed by the Super-Soldier Serum during World War II. He wields an indestructible vibranium shield and represents the ideal of American moral courage. He was frozen in ice after WWII and revived in the modern era. Chris Evans portrayed him in the MCU across nine films (2011-2019). His most famous lines include I can do this all day and I understood that reference.

What Are Captain America's Powers?

The Super-Soldier Serum enhanced Steve Rogers to the peak of human physical potential: superhuman strength (not quite Thor-level, but far beyond normal humans), speed, agility, endurance, and accelerated healing. His vibranium shield is virtually indestructible, absorbs kinetic energy, and can be thrown with extraordinary precision. He is also a master tactician and hand-to-hand combatant.

What Is the Vibranium Shield?

Captain America's shield is made of vibranium, a fictional metal from Wakanda that absorbs vibrations and kinetic energy. It is circular, can be thrown and ricocheted off multiple targets, and returns to him. Howard Stark (Tony Stark's father) originally created it. The shield is both a weapon and a symbol.

What Happens to Cap in Endgame?

After the final battle, Steve Rogers travels back in time to return the Infinity Stones. Instead of returning to the present, he stays in the past to live with Peggy Carter. He appears in the present as an elderly man and passes the shield to Sam Wilson (Falcon), who becomes the new Captain America.
