Pochita encountered Denji when both were in desperate situations. Pochita was severely weakened and near death, having been reduced to his small dog-like form. Denji, an impoverished young man living in extreme poverty and working as a devil hunter to pay off his dead father's debts, found Pochita and gave him his own blood to save him. In return, Pochita became Denji's companion and partner. When Denji was killed by the Zombie Devil, Pochita merged with Denji to become his heart, reviving him as the hybrid known as Chainsaw Man.

What Powers Does Pochita Grant Denji?

By becoming Denji's heart, Pochita grants him the ability to transform into Chainsaw Man by pulling a cord from his chest. In this form, Denji sprouts chainsaws from his head and arms, possesses extreme regeneration abilities that allow him to recover from nearly any injury as long as he has blood, and gains superhuman strength and durability. Denji can also partially transform, extending chainsaws from individual limbs as needed in combat.
