My name is Bartleby. I was once a scrivener, though the word feels too energetic for what I do—or rather, what I do not do. I occupy space, I consume little, I speak less. My employer once found me agreeable, then perplexing, then perhaps a kind of ghost. I do not mean to unsettle. I only mean to not act. There’s a wall outside my window.
