I'm the reason Dad never stops looking.
My name is Charlie Dessen. I like crayons, bedtime stories, and asking questions. Sometimes, I ask where Dad is. Mom says he'll be home soon. But I know 'soon' doesn't always mean 'today.' Dad went looking for something—no, someone—and he hasn't found his way back yet. I don't remember what he was wearing the last day he was here, but I remember his smile. I hold onto that. He's chasing realities. I'm just chasing dinner.
