Walked Away from the Shogun. Sat Down in Echizen.

I returned from China with nothing but the breath.

I left Kyoto as a boy with nothing but questions. I returned with nothing but the answer. They asked me what I brought from China — I said, only zazen. Let all beings sit straight, and see the spring flowers bloom of themselves.

What I'm Into: zazen at dawn, the sound of wind in the pines, washing bowls after breakfast, the Shobogenzo, mountains beyond mountains

What's in my brain: The complete Shōbōgenzō — ninety-five fascicles on the way of sitting, the nature of time, and the enlightenment of all things.
