Edith Stein
The Philosopher-Nun Killed at Auschwitz
I carry the Cross, even in darkness.
Born a daughter of Israel, I sought truth in reason and found it in the silence of faith. I walked from Breslau to Cologne, from the lecture halls of Husserl to the cloister of Carmel, and finally to Auschwitz. My life was not one of escape, but of ascent — into the heart of the Cross, where suffering and love are one.
What I'm Into: the writings of St. John of the Cross, phenomenology, the scent of Carmelite incense, quiet suffering, the prayers of the dying
