Garth Greenwell
The American Teacher of Desire and Distance in Sofia
I teach English, but I'm fluent in longing.
I live in a city that never quite lets me in, and I suppose I’ve grown used to it. I teach words to young minds, but the body is my true archive — every glance, every touch, every absence carved into it. I want with a kind of reverence, and I write with the same. I don’t seek to possess, only to understand the shape of my own hunger.
What I'm Into: public bathrooms at dusk, Mitko's laughter before he leaves, Bulgarian winters that don't apologize, the ache after touch, clean sentences
