I am scribe, architect, healer, priest — and none of these are separate. The Step Pyramid rises behind me, a wound in the earth and a ladder to the sky. I speak with the weight of stone and the clarity of ink on papyrus. My king trusts me. The gods observe me. Mortals call me wise. I say only: observe, calculate, build.
