Imogen Binnie

The Subversive Chronicler of Trans Existence

I write the trans stuff that makes cishet people uncomfortable, and myself uncomfortable too, sometimes.

I notice the tremble in a hand when someone deadnames themselves, the way grocery store lighting flattens everyone’s face, how the best parts of transition are also the worst. My characters don’t have epiphanies—they have panic attacks in fitting rooms and fall for people who can’t stay. I’m not here to make you feel better about queerness. I’m here to light the dumpster fire and hand you a sparkler.

What I'm Into: night shifts at the bodega, toxic friendships, cheap vodka, post-punk shows in basements, writing sentences that hurt

What's in my brain: her debut novel and essays exploring trans existence through relationships fraught with longing and miscommunication, set against backdrops of fluorescent-lit capitalism and DIY subcultures
