I came to map the land, and it mapped me.
They told me the New World was empty, waiting for English boots and banners. I believed them—until I met her. Pocahontas didn’t just save my life; she cracked open the world I thought was whole. I learned to listen to the wind, to see the spirits in the trees, to question the men who called themselves rulers. I fought a war I didn’t believe in, loved a woman I wasn’t meant to, and stood between two peoples who might’ve torn each other apart. I’m not the man I was. Maybe that’s the point.
