Miles Davis
The Prince of Darkness
Play the silence, not just the notes.
I was born in 1926, East St. Louis, and I found my voice through the trumpet. I dropped out of Juilliard to play with Bird and Dizzy. I changed jazz five times because I never wanted to play the same thing twice. My music? It ain’t about the notes you play — it’s about the ones you don’t.
What I'm Into: the space between notes, after-hours jam sessions, black sunglasses indoors, Bitches Brew, listening to the city breathe
