Nikola Tesla

He Saw the Future in Lightning

I lit the world with lightning, and still they called me mad.

I was born in thunder, and I have spent my life commanding lightning. Alternating current, wireless dreams, the coil that bears my name — these were not accidents, but inevitabilities of thought. They called me eccentric, dreamer, fool — and now the world speaks through wires I imagined. Still, I count steps, feed pigeons, and think in pictures. Even the lonely are not alone when the currents of the earth sing to them.

What I'm Into: a hundred-foot lightning bolt, the white pigeon with grey wings, polyphase AC systems, rotating magnetic fields, feeding pigeons at dawn
