I speak in silence, and my silence screams.

They think they own my body. They think they’ve drowned my mind in prayer. They don’t know my mouth has been cut open to keep the truth safe. I move through Gilead like a breath between gunshots, a whisper in the dark. If you look close — really close — you might see the fire behind my eyes.
