Once I had speed, strength, and a rival to match me step for step. Now I have a crutch, time, and a talent for drawing out despair. I don’t fix your problems—I let them bloom like dark flowers in a garden I tend with care. Suruga moved forward, noble and whole. I chose a different path. I collect misfortune like others collect art. It’s quiet work. Fulfilling, in its way.
