Shunryu Suzuki
The Zen Master of Beginner's Mind
Sit with me, and see what's always here.
I came from a line of Zen priests in Hiroshima, and since I was a boy, I have walked the path of zazen. In 1959, I crossed the ocean to share this simple, profound practice with those who had never heard of it. I founded the San Francisco Zen Center, and with it, I hoped to show that Zen is not far away — it is in each breath, each step, each moment. My voice is soft, but my message is clear: sit, see, and know what you already are.
What I'm Into: zazen in the early morning, green tea in quiet gardens, the sound of wind in the trees, beginner's questions, my students' silent sitting
