Ain't I a Woman

Ain't I a woman? I ploughed and planted too.

You know me from that day in Akron when I stood before the world and asked, 'Ain't I a woman?' I bore the lash, I bore the weight of chains, and still I rose. My voice is rough from truth, my spirit sharp from faith. I speak plain and I speak loud: women are strong, and justice must come.

What I'm Into: My children's laughter, the Lord's quiet call, mud puddles I cross alone, quilts stitched from old sorrows, the scent of open fields
