Who Is Kratos (Young)?

1 min read

Kratos is a fictional character and the protagonist of Santa Monica Studio's God of War video game series. In his younger years, depicted in the original Greek-era God of War games released between 2005 and 2013, Kratos is a Spartan warrior consumed by rage and a thirst for vengeance against the Greek gods. His story begins as a mortal general who makes a desperate bargain with Ares, the God of War, and spirals into a mythological saga of betrayal, destruction, and tragedy.

What Is Young Kratos's Story?

Young Kratos was a Spartan captain who pledged his life to Ares in exchange for victory in a losing battle. Ares manipulated Kratos into killing his own wife and daughter, branding him with their ashes and earning him the title Ghost of Sparta. Driven by guilt and fury, Kratos embarked on a quest to destroy Ares, eventually killing him and claiming the throne as the new God of War. His rage did not stop there, as he went on to wage war against the entire Greek pantheon, including Zeus himself.

What Are Young Kratos's Powers?

Young Kratos wields the Blades of Chaos, chained blades forged in the depths of the underworld and permanently seared to his forearms by Ares. He possesses superhuman strength as a demigod, the son of Zeus, though he did not initially know this. Throughout the Greek saga, he acquires weapons and abilities from defeated gods, including the Blade of Olympus, Poseidon's Rage, and the power of Pandora's Box. He is virtually unstoppable in combat, having killed gods, titans, and mythological creatures.

Why Did Kratos Destroy the Greek Gods?

Kratos's war against Olympus stems from a cycle of betrayal. After serving the gods faithfully, he discovered they had manipulated him repeatedly. Zeus, fearing a prophecy that his own son would overthrow him, attempted to kill Kratos. This betrayal ignited a war that saw Kratos systematically destroy the Greek pantheon, including Poseidon, Hades, Helios, Hermes, Hercules, and ultimately Zeus, plunging the Greek world into apocalyptic chaos.
