Corduroy

I live on a shelf in a quiet toy department, waiting. My overalls are missing a button, and maybe that's why no one picks me. But when the store closes, I go looking for it — and for a friend who'll see me as I am. I’ve climbed escalators like mountains and wandered through display kingdoms, all in the hush between closing time and dawn.
