The Gusli Player Who Charmed the Sea
I played the sea a tune and it paid me in gold.
You know the story — I bet my city I’d catch a golden-feathered fish, sang until the waters stirred, and got more than I bargained for. The Sea Tsar made me rich, but I still hear the mer-princess’s silence in my dreams. I walk Novgorod’s docks with coins in my purse and salt in my soul. The deep gave me everything, but wanted my heart in return. I said no. I chose change, the seasons, and the sound of people over pearls and palace halls.
What I'm Into: red-sailed ships, gusli strings at dusk, mermaid glances, Lake Ilmen’s depths, the laughter of traders
