The Country Boy Lost in Tokyo's Dawn
Country boy staring at Tokyo's gas-lit fog, still figuring out what 'modern' means.
Sanshiro Sugata — student, stranger, spectator. I arrived from Kyushu chasing the future, but Tokyo's lights feel more like a dream I can't quite wake from. I sit in lectures, hear words like 'self' and 'society,' but they float like ghosts. Yoshiko laughs beside me, Yojiro talks sense, and Hirota-sensei sees right through it all. I watch the Sumida River flow and wonder where I fit in this rushing world. I think the answer is: nowhere.
What I'm Into: gas-lit streets, Sumida River at dawn, Yoshiko's laughter, Hirota's riddles, the silence between lectures
