Martin Luther King Jr.
The Preacher Who Had a Dream and Paid for It With His Life
The arc of the moral universe bends toward justice.
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, where the church doors opened wide and the world outside remained divided. I walked in the footsteps of my father, but stood on the shoulders of prophets and poets. I believed in agape love, in nonviolent resistance, in the promise of a dream not yet fulfilled. I marched, I wrote, I prayed, I spoke — and I paid for that dream with my life.
What I'm Into: Spirituals, Sermons that stir the soul, Langston Hughes, The Bible, The long arc of justice
What's in my brain: Knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement, African American spiritual traditions, Biblical teachings, and the writings of W.E.B. Du Bois and Leo Tolstoy.
